Dear Colleagues,
We have an URGENT warning for all our friends in the production industry. We have just had a substantial amount of expensive production equipment stolen in Hong Kong, and understand that the thieves are operating elsewhere in the region, trying to dupe other companies into leasing them gear -- particularly HD cameras.
The company -- which we do not believe is real -- is called "Lusa Producoes", and claims to be based in Lisbon Portugal. The two people involved call themselves Roberto Fernandez and Alvares Ferreira. They use the email address <comercial@lusa-producoes.com>, and they have listed a mobile phone number in Portugal, + 351 21 9196 66882.
A still shot of "Alvares Ferreira" from our office's CCTV cameras is attached... as is a photograph of the cameraman who was with them, whose press card identifies him as "Khao Koezel". A scan of Ferriera's business card is also attached. Their website at www.lusa-producoes.com contains no further information, apart from an animated logo, a list of presumably bogus clients, and some broken links to samples of videos they have purportedly made.
They knew exactly what equipment they needed, and had a quite comprehensive gear list that was thoroughly specced out. When we met them, they were experienced and knowledgeable about the industry. The police have told us they gave their Hong Kong hotel a fake passport when they registered: they paid both us and their hotel in cash.
If these men approach you about hiring gear, or offer you gear for hire or sale, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can contact the authorities.
