The Spintec RD105 Rain Deflector

(Editor's note) A few months ago we had a sneak preview of the Rain Deflector from Spintec. The Rain Deflector is now an essential tool for uses as diverse as Formula One coverage and the US navy film division, to name only two. One has even made it's way to the Amazon for a documentary production (we will be bringing you the story of how that went). And as winter approaches in Europe and the USA we thought we’d bring to your attention this small but very effective accessory that can make the difference of getting that shot

Spintec has created the design that deflects rain and snow from the front element of the lens. This specially produced filter rotates at high speed (50 rounds per second) keeping the lens free from drops. The Rain Deflector can be turned on while recording without affecting the picture and it does not create a gyro effect when panning or tilting the camera. The rotating filter is made by Tiffen.

The Rain Deflector can be used with both internal and external lenses. For external lenses ARRI or Chrosziel 15mm rods have to be used. On internal focus lenses the Rain Deflector clips on the front of the lens.

The DR105 fits on lenses with external diameter up to 105mm and covers wide-angle lenses with up to 85 degrees of horizontal field angle.

The Spintec Rain Deflector Kit includes:

  • Power cable
  • Sunshade
  • Special camera rain cover
  • Three Snap on rings
  • Front and rear lens cap

The unit operates via a 12 volt power supply directly off the camera battery.

The camera rain cover which is included with the Kit will cover any type of broadcast camera, including OB (studio) cameras.

Spintec also make the DR80 which fits on lenses with external diameter of 70mm up to 80mm.

The Rain Deflector is designed using the highest quality standards and materials to ensure the delivery of a product with long life and reliable performance.

The RD comes with a one year Limited Warranty and it is made in Israel.
